Tasmania: Free Plants, Rebates and Garden Freebies

Free plant programs, rate rebates and garden grants available across Tasmania. Pick your council or browse statewide programs.

Programs verified June 2026
The City of Hobart gives away up to 20 free plants per household each year, distributing around 4,000 plants annually.

← All states and territories

A note on Tasmania: Tasmania has fewer council-level garden freebies than the mainland states. The City of Hobart runs the largest local program. Many other Tasmanian councils run occasional free plant events throughout the year, so check your council's events calendar regularly. Statewide programs from Landcare Tasmania and Private Forests Tasmania help fill the gap, especially for rural landowners and community groups.
